Motivational Friday

It’s the weekend, nearly! It is Friday morning and I have to be up at 5.00 am for work but there could be worse things so here is my Friday motivation…

“Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresea, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.”

My Event Bucket List

In the last two weeks I have introduced a bucket list at work.  The lovely ladies and I have stared a weekly bucket list of things we want to accomplish in the next week.  The list is everything from go to the gym 5 times this week to emailing our moms.  It got me thinking about my events’ bucket list so here is my top 5 locations I want to run events in the next five years:

  1. The Rainbow Room – NYC – I have been to NYC 15 times and it is one of my favourite places.  Every time I go I can visualise all the amazing conferences or events I could do there. The Rainbow Room opened in 1934 and was THE celebrity place. It has been mentioned in everything from a JD Salinger novel to numerous shout outs in Friends and to me, it is the epitome of NYC and to do an event there would be fab!
  2. Grand Hotel, Wein – ViennaVienna is just stunning and to hold a conference  or a meeting followed by a Viennese themed ball would be amazing.  This hotel is breathtaking. You need to have a look!
  3. Burj-al-Arab – DubaiI lived in Dubai for two years so am well versed with all the amazing venues.  Despite living there, I have run only one event, in the Mall of the Emirates, and would love to do something at some of the more opulent locations. The Burj-al-Arab has some amazing spaces for meetings & events.  Who wouldn’t want to hold a cocktail reception where Tiger Woods teed off.
  4. MGM Grand – Las Vegas – Ahhh Vegas. I have only ever been to Vegas for holidays and running an event in the 6000 person capacity Marquee Ballroom would be just fantastic
  5. Galle Face Hotel – Sri LankaMy husband and I stayed here a few years ago and it is so regal and the hotel is just so grand. I would love to run a smaller event here with a gala dinner in the grounds.  Everything about this hotel is perfect.  Great distance from the airport, amazing service and just beautiful.

What are your top 5?

Hotel Chantelle

I am obsessed with New York and any of its exports (especially the Milk Duds I can get at the corner shop) so, when a friend passed on an invitation for the launch of its newest export, Hotel Chantelle, I was excited.

Hotel Chantelle (not a hotel but a restaurant/late night venue) is situated just off Oxford Street, by Selfridges and on top of the newest celeb hangout The Bonbonniere Club.

The launch was just last week where Executive Chef Seth Levine flew over to introduce his restaurant and his food (think American fun meets Fancy France) my favourite of which was the Waffle-Crusted Fried Chicken With Maple Syrup Cotton Candy

Hotelle Chantelle 1

If your thinking in terms of corporate events,  the two venues combined have the capacity to hold up to 380 and I will definitely be taking the husband back to the restaurant.  They offer late night dining until 3.00 am on Thursdays to Saturdays and I think its going to be THE place to go.Hotelle Chantelle

The Power of Twitter #eventprofs

Last night I met up with 7 lovely people who I have met mostly through social media and had the best time.  We met up in the fab Rumpus Room at the Mondrian Hotel.  The bar is amazing and you can read about it here.

Three of us had originally arranged for a catch up to talk about events, social media and everything in between. At about 9.00 am, a tweet like below was sent which resulted in 3 others asking to come along and then another and then another and so it continued!

From that one tweet, I was fortunate enough to make 3 new contacts, share a few event related tips and tricks and managed to book the private dining room at the Mondrian for an event in the process.

Social media is so powerful and I can’t wait to see how our group grows.  If your reading this and want to be involved either as an #eventprof or as a venue wanting to host us email me here!

Fancy a picnic?

I love a picnic and on Saturday me, my sister and my good friend Sam are cycling to Hampton Court Palace to have one (very well behaved for a Saturday I know) and it got me thinking – where could I get a great picnic, already done so I don’t have to mess around and I immediately thought, Carluccios!

I use the Carluccio’s picnics for corporate events at the cricket all the time. The hampers are very well priced and you can pick them up either by the grounds (depending on where they are going) or find one close to their home.

There are a variety you can choose from – have a look here and very well priced.  You can pick one up for yourself or corporate clients for around £45 (which serves 2) and is more than enough food.

obviously ours will have more wine!
